USGA Reverses Course!

Friday, June 19th, 2009

I ripped them a new tin cup when they screwed up.

Now, I’ll pat them on their little birdie heads.

The United States Golf Association has reversed a previous ruling…and, will allow fans who missed most of the action in yesterday’s rained-out first round of the U.S. Open to exchange their tickets for Monday.

That’s right. If they were rained out of the first round, they now get to watch the final championship round!

That’s a pretty good exchange!

Listen, I took after the USGA with a 2-iron when they initially refused to allow refunds or exchanges. So, I have to give them credit now.

The USGA saw that they were wrong, and they corrected it.

Good for them.

U.S. Open Ticket Policy is Out of Bounds

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Are the people in charge at the United States Golf Association really this mean? Or, are they just dumb and out of touch with regular folks?

Tens of thousands of loyal golf fans slogged through monsoon-like conditions Thursday, to attend the first round of the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black on Long Island.

Conditions were terrible. Torrential rains. Powerful winds. Yet, these golf fans showed up to support the sport and see their favorite players. Only around half the players made it onto the course before play was called off because of rain. Tiger Woods only played a few holes. Phil Mickelson never made it onto the course at all.

Disappointed fans, soaked to the skin, slogged through the mud to exchange their tickets. After all, the weather has to get better, right?

But, wait. NO REFUNDS? NO EXCHANGES? That’s right. The elitists who run the USGA decided that enough play had been completed to constitute a “day of play.” And, they say…tickets are sold for the day…NOT the round.

The USGA can kiss my Big Bertha driver.

They don’t get it, do they? These golfing elitists are so arrogant, so out of touch…that they don’t understand what the average fan sacrificed to attend yesterday’s “day of play.”

Regular folks had to scrape together money to buy an exhorbitantly priced U.S. Open ticket. They probably had to take a day off work (if they still have a job).

And, the USGA has the temerity, the brass Top Flights, to refuse to offer refunds or exchanges?

I don’t blame the players. They had nothing to do with this. This is the USGA. Some of the players don’t like the Association, either.

The fans must act. Make a statement. Call the USGA to voice your displeasure. Cancel subscriptions to publications that financially benefits the USGA.

Tell the USGA. They shot a bogey with this policy.

An Open Letter

Dear New York Waterway:

Hi, my ferry friends. It’s your faithful daily rider, Steve. Hope you’re doing well!

Hey, I don’t have my copy of the NY Waterway policy manual handy. So, I’m hoping you can answer my question.

Is it okay for tilted-head, phone-cradling NY Waterway captains to chat on their cells while they’re piloting their ferry on the choppy Hudson? Particularly when they’re approaching the dock?

Just wondering. Please let me know soon, okay? Thanks!

See you on the water!

Steve
